Seizing the Initiative

Something I was saying to [livejournal.com profile] jmargethe:

"But I think that the Democrats could do better than that--for us, and for themselves as a party, if they're thinking strategically. I suspect that Pelosi and Reid can for example keep the blue dogs in line, and further marginalize Bush, by seizing the initiative on popular issues like raising the minimum wage: given how many states voted to raise their minimums, Tuesday, I think that there's enough momentum to get something done at the federal level. And I doubt very much that many moderate-to-conservative Dems will defect on this issue--a lot of Republicans will probably follow the Dems' lead on this one, and I doubt that even Bush would have the nerve to veto it.

That'd be a good start, at any rate. But the main thing will be for Pelosi and Reid to seize and keep the political initiative, set the terms of debate."

I think that presumptive Speaker Pelosi's "100 Hours" strategy sounds like a plausible beginning.
