Man, I'm way behind on my jetsetting.

Also, I regard not having ever been to a Spanish-speaking country (even the old ancestral homeland of P.R. ...) as something of a personal failure. Anyone have any tips for financing global travel on the cheap?

(Also, it occurs to me that I only think about going to countries where I like the food. Which is, I guess, rather, um, cuisinist, of me ...)

Filling that out would be too depressing (check US, Canada, Mexico; check wish to visit for the others...)

My current financial plans involve lottery tickets, so I can't give you any advice.

I _almost_ made it Tijuana last year. If I'd known my plan was going to be so late, I could've done it. Still haven't gotten to Canada.

There are a lot of places in Mexico that can be done on the cheap -- usually your biggest expense will be airfare. The last place I visited was Ixtapa, which was nice, but a bit too "resort town" for me. Acapulco was great, but my favorite is still Mazatlan (probably because I have very nice childhood memories from there) -- both of these cities can be done inexpensively, especially if you travel during the "off" season in the summer months. I've not yet visited any other Latin American countries, although I'd love to one day see many of them.
