A Sort of Opportunity ...
Jun. 12th, 2006 05:36 pmThat political consulting firm offered me a job, today. The position sounds interesting, if demanding: long hours spent training and organizing volunteers, and raising funds. As expected, the pay would be kind of pitiful, but I think enough to get by on.
One particularly problematic wrinkle, though: they'd want me to relocate to somewhere else in the country during the last 10 weeks of the election campaign--basically, from late August through early November. Where? Wherever the electoral math says that they need people. They would pay for the move and would offer me the option of sharing a house with someone at the assigned location, freeing me from housing expenses there and potentially enabling me to keep my Seattle apartment (and not move all of my stuff).
Problem 1: I'm going to have to adopt a fairly spartan lifestyle to live on what this job pays.
Problem 2: What the hell would I do with Zoe and Ozzy if I'm moving to parts unknown, during the fall?
They seem pretty excited about hiring me: they've called me twice, today. I told them that I would get back to them with a decision, tomorrow.
