saavedra77: Back to the byte mines ... (all things)

I started putting together the below list as the standard New Years recap: the first sentences of a dozen or so of the previous year's entries, customarily one per month. Choosing entries based on personal significance, I in fact narrowed it down to nine entries, skipping three months altogether.

In short, 2006 involved a lot of personal transitions, some of them quite somber:

March: I've felt for a long time that I needed to change jobs; well, this is about to become less of a fond wish and more of an urgent necessity ...

April: My Friday began with a potentially serious mishap, & ended with ... shall we say, a new addition to the household ...

May: It was all about the flags.

June: That political consulting firm offered me a job, today.

July: Everyone showed me a lot of affection and respect on my last day at the organizing job, Friday.

August: So I'm back in Dilbert-land, sitting in a cubicle shuffling virtual paper ...

September: After thirteen hours in transit, entailing the usual round of delays and security hassles, I arrived in Philadelphia just before midnight last Saturday, dog-tired, with another two hours to go before I would be able to put my head on a pillow.

November: I've been struggling to take in the idea that the Democrats have actually won both houses of Congress, ever since I heard that Allen had conceded the Virginia Senate race to Webb.

December: Monday will mark the second year in a row I've had to forego a trip home to visit la familia during Christmas week.
