See, lines like that are why I think Brian K. Vaughn is the best thing to happen to graphic novel writing since Alan Moore's Watchmen. I just got around to reading "Kimono Dragons," the latest collection of Y The Last Man, and I was so not disappointed. I continue to be amazed by Vaughn's ability to keep elaborating on the "unmanned" premise, I grow more attached to the characters with every story cycle, and the dialogue still totally rocks.

The One Consideration
Dec. 17th, 2006 09:34 pmIn a Lonely Place has to be one of the most affecting films noirs I've seen: I've never been that much of a Humphrey Bogart fan, but I thought that his performance here hit all of the right notes--bitter, sometimes explosive, sometimes surprisingly warm. And though I've never heard of Gloria Grahame, before, she surely makes the sanest noir heroine ever. I mean, she actually seems like a person, rather than some kind of phantasmagorical projection of knuckledragger angst. And the two of them work together remarkably well, bringing out all those noirish themes of loneliness, vulnerability, distrust, fear, etc.
(Hey, it's not like the thing is called In a Happy Place or something.)
Having come to the end of that, however, the one consideration which preoccupies me is: We got any rum in the house ...?

But, dude, neither my apartment nor my body are succeeding in holding in the heat when it's literally freezing outside. That invitation to visit my half-sister's half-sister in Miami is sounding better and better ...
