What's wrong with Don Gato
Aug. 6th, 2005 06:48 pmThe vet called me today with my cat's test results:
Puig's lab work indicates hyperthyroidism, which could explain the sudden weight loss, and perhaps some of the other symptoms. The good news is that this is a thoroughly treatable condition: the vet has already called in a scrip for him.
The hyperthyroidism does not however explain the extent of the vision problems, disorientation, or disequilibrium that Puig exhibits.
Unfortunately Puig's x-rays indicate a more plausible, much more disturbing explanation: these show two masses of indeterminate type in his lungs. These could be cysts, abscesses, or cancer. An ultrasound might or might not enable the vet to more precisely identify them.
However, if these masses are cancerous, Puig's other unexplained symptoms--the aforementioned vision problems, disorientation, and disequilibrium--would be consistent with a metastatic cancer that has already spread to the brain.
We'll need to do that ultrasound, as well as possibly some other testing, to rule out or confirm this.
