saavedra77: Back to the byte mines ... (all things)

I think I had a few too many ambitions for this weekend--I spent too much time running around, not enough enjoying any one of the things that I set out to do:

On Saturday, I did manage to put in an all-too-brief appearance at [livejournal.com profile] sarrabellum 's birthday celebration, where of course I got to see [livejournal.com profile] sleepwhenimdead , Haven, and a whole lot of mutual friends and acquaintances who, always last to learn, I discovered were on LJ--like [livejournal.com profile] ketina, [livejournal.com profile] ronelyn, [livejournal.com profile] differedfrom, [livejournal.com profile] ladyavalon42, [livejournal.com profile] pinky_ki, and [livejournal.com profile] spoomeister.  OK, OK, I knew about the latter two, already--but it was amusing to find myself at a party full of people I already knew to one degree or another and only then discover that most of them were on here, too. Still sorry I missed out on the cake.

Then it was off to Seattle Center to see Napoleon Dynamite with Jackie (a long-planned prior commitment, sorry guys), which I think I'd had built up a little bit too much for me.  It was cute, mildly amusing, but I didn't love it the way that a lot of folks I know apparently did.  (I might also have still been somewhat disagreeable over missing the cake ...)

Sunday, it was off to work to try to finish a lit search due for Monday morning that I hadn't quite gotten through by the end of the day on Friday.  This actually went more smoothly than expected--I finished just in time to run and catch a bus to Magnolia, where I met C from work to watch Greenstage's Henry V in a little grove-turned-performance-space at Discovery Park.

I was actually rather underwhelmed by the performances in this Henry V--then again, my expectations were shaped by Branagh's and Olivier's films, which had the advantages of lavish sets and costumes, camera closeups, paid actors, etc. Also, somewhat incongruously, the actor playing Fluellen had a Scottish, rather than Welsh accent ... Still, there were some nice touches: in a fine visual allusion, they pointedly distributed red and white roses to the guests at Henry and Catherine's wedding, underlining the Chorus' suggestion that lots more war and death lay in England's future.

Then I had to run to get the bus home and get ready for Monday ...

I'm very glad that you were able to make it, even if I was sad to see you leave early.

I can't promise that the cake leftovers are going to last much longer, but we still have LOTS of marshmallows for roasting!
