I'm always amazed that anyone can tell that I'm from the Deleware Valley, because I spent my entire childhood trying to sound unlike the people I grew up with. Also, I haven't lived there in over twenty years!

I got "the Midland" meaning either "Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri" or "you don't have an accent." Apparently this is good for television or radio work. This test did not catch the New York in my speech pattern that I think is pretty clear, but it really only hits certain words ("yeah" being the most obvious). And it is a speech pattern rather than an accent.

I grew up all over, so I guess it all blended quite well. You do sound like an East Coaster to me, maybe because that's where I'm from too.

I guess that the "midlands" accent was what I was going for, when I was growing up--trying to sound "like people on TV." I evidently wasn't successful, though: blueraccoon knew I was from NJ the first time that she heard me speak. Not that I mind so much, any more--it's just surprising.

BTW, I never thanked you for the p'card: I really appreciated that. I'm gonna have to travel up there, myself, one of these days ....
