Before a Fall

saavedra77I've been struggling to take in the idea that the Democrats have actually won both houses of Congress, ever since I heard that Allen had conceded the Virginia Senate race to Webb. I'm amazed, almost dazed.
I worked for this: spent much of the summer canvassing full-time, spent last weekend doing get-out-the-vote phone work. And I can still barely believe that it's happened. I spent Tuesday night with a group of former canvassers and organizers at Cafe Met, when it was already clear that the Democrats were going to win the House. But even then, among people who'd fought for a Democratic win, none of us dared predict that we were going to take the Virginia Senate seat: it was so close.
Ah, but I have enjoyed watching W eat crow, since then.
He still manages to sound smug, somehow, though, doesn't he?
