Good quote! I met Tony Kushner once. I actually sat next to him during an entire Stoppard play. I was working for the Yale Rep theater and the theater manager said "Tony Kushner is coming to tonight's show!" So my best friend and I comped ourselves two tickets right next to him (we moved the people who were supposed to sit next to him). We chatted with him about the play during intermission too, and I had my copy of Angels for him to sign. We were such dorks.
Sorry I lost sight of this and didn't reply for a while ... He was awesome! He was really down-to-earth and friendly. After we introduced ourselves to him and asked him to sign our books (like a couple of dorks) he sort of shyly struck up a conversation with us about the play. I really liked him!
Someone else I had a great impression of was James Earl Jones. He came to one of the shows and asked me where the "men's lavatory" was in his amazing voice. He was like 4 feet tall, but extremely polite and gracious.
Always a nice bonus to find that an artist you like is actually a decent person. :)
And JEJ is short?! You'd never know: it must be in his contract that they only film him with the camera looking up him! Kind of like Barbra Streisand always being filmed in soft light ...
