Happy New Year from Seattle!

Edit, 12:08 PM, 01/01/08: To those of you in Seattle, today's P.I. reports on the apparent computer glitch that made this year's show so much less impressive than last year's event (2007 footage at above link).

Thanks for the video recap! I opted to stay home because it was cold out, and because the neighborhood fireworks (definitely from the res) were scaring my cats. Bear impressed me though -- instead of running under the bed with his sister, he stood up on top and growled, as if to protect us all from whatever was making those awful noises outside. It was really out of character for him (he's usually scared of everything).

Oh, that was last year's video recap. I didn't tape this year's event, and I think that it would only be amenable to comedic treatment--maybe with narration about the weird stopping and starting. Spoo's above comments might be a good start for the laugh track ... :)

BTW, "the res"? Are you near a reservation? May I ask which one?

Oh, I didn't realize this was last year's video. I'm willing to accept it in place of this years.

I still live in Seattle. But there are reservations in the region, and my neighbors are Native Americans, and their friend who showed up in the car with the bass that vibrates your house from across the street definitely could not have bought the loud, airborne fireworks they were setting off anywhere but on a res. I was not too pleased that they chose our culdesac as the site of their display. Beyond the close circle of multiple family homes lies the forest of Carkeek park. In drier weather they might've burned down the neighborhood. Mostly I was just mad that they were scaring my cats.

Or in other words, the fireworks were purchased on a reservation, and exploded here. I was not hearing explosions that occurred on a nearby reservation.

And for the record, I like Native Americans very much. I just don't like loud car stereos or loud fireworks.

That's OK, I understood. I'm not a big fan of amateur fireworks displays, either--especially in my back yard.

(Ever spent the Fourth of July in Bremerton ...?! I did, once. It sounded like a war zone.)

Those Bremertonians are proud of their fireworks, aren't they? I was in nearby Port Orchard one year, and I got the gist of it.
